Late Push Falls Short as Bulldogs Drop CT Ice Consolation to Sacred Heart

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's hockey team fell to Sacred Heart University, 3-2, in the Consolation Game of the 2026 Connecticut Ice Tournament on Saturday. The Bulldogs dropped to 7-13-0 on the season, while the Pioneers improved to 13-8-3.

Period 1: Yale 1, SHU 1

  • 4:21 (YAL) – Ronan O'Donnell absorbed a hit along the wall and slipped a pass to Donovan Frias. Frias spun off one defender, fought through another, and buried the game's opening goal.
  • 19:48 (SHU) – With 12 seconds remaining in the period, Sacred Heart struck on the power play to even the score.

Period 2: Yale 1, SHU 1

  • Both teams combined for 21 shots in the second period but remained deadlocked after 40 minutes.

Period 3: SHU 3, Yale 2

  • 9:54 (SHU) – Just under 10 minutes into the final frame, the Pioneers broke the tie with a redirect in front of the net.
  • 11:31 (SHU) – A point shot found the back of the net, giving Sacred Heart a two-goal cushion.
  • 14:30 (YAL) – On the power play, the Bulldogs cycled the puck before Hughie Hooker started a sequence to Micah Berger and over to O'Donnell. O'Donnell's initial shot ricocheted off a defender and came back to his stick, where he finished to pull Yale within one.
  • Yale's late push came up short as Sacred Heart held on for the victory.

Notes

  • Jack Stark made 30 saves in goal, marking his fourth 30-plus save performance of the season.
  • David Chen skated in his 100th career game for Yale.
  • Zachary Wagnon went 15-for-24 in the faceoff circle.
  • Ronan O'Donnell recorded a goal and an assist and leads the Bulldogs with 17 points (9 goals, 8 assists).
  • Micah Berger tallied two assists.
