CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard pulled away in the fourth quarter Friday night at Lavietes Pavilion, outscoring the Yale women's basketball team 19-5 in the final frame en route to beating the Bulldogs 72-44.
After outscoring Yale 22-14 in the first quarter Harvard built its lead to 12, 30-18, midway through the second. The Bulldogs responded with a jumper from senior forward
Kiley Capstraw, a block by junior forward
Mary Meng and a jumper from sophomore guard
Ciniya Moore to get within eight. The Yale deficit was 35-27 heading into halftime.
Harvard scored the first five points of the third quarter, eventually opening with a 9-2 run to extend its lead to 15. The Bulldogs would get no closer than 13 for the rest of the way. A buzzer-beating three by junior forward
Luisa Vydrova at the end of the third pulled Yale within 14, 53-39, heading into the fourth.
Harvard then scored the first eight points of the fourth to open up a 20 point lead, effectively putting the game out of reach.
Yale falls to 5-14 (1-5 Ivy League) while Harvard improves to 11-8 (4-2 Ivy League).
STATISTICAL LEADERS
- Junior forward Luisa Vydrova led Yale in points with 17. Sophomore guard Ciniya Moore added 16.
- Senior forward Kiley Capstraw led Yale in rebounds with 11. That bested her previous career high, 10.
- Capstraw led Yale in assists with three.
