HANOVER, N.H. – A large early deficit proved too much for the Yale women's basketball team to overcome against Dartmouth at Leede Arena Saturday night as the Bulldogs fell 77-59.
Dartmouth scored the first 17 points of the game, before junior forward
Mary Meng got the Bulldogs on the board with a layup at 3:53 of the first. Yale heated up after that, and eventually cut the deficit into single digits on the second of two Meng free throws at 3:27 of the second. It was down to five, 27-22, after a free throw by sophomore guard
Ke'iara Odume at 2:00 of the second. Dartmouth regrouped, though, and got the lead to 12 (34-22) heading into halftime.
The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair, but Yale closed it with an 11-7 run that included six points from sophomore guard
Marisa Chapman. The Bulldogs trailed 50-40 heading into the fourth.
A 9-4 run by Dartmouth to start the fourth prompted a Yale timeout with 7:13 to play. The Bulldogs got baskets from Chapman and Meng to close within 11, but Dartmouth's Nina Minicozzi answered with a three-point play and Yale would get no closer than within 12 after that.
Yale falls to 5-15 (1-6 Ivy League) while Dartmouth improves to 10-10 (1-6 Ivy League).
