Frey, Boyle Land on All-ECAC Hockey Rookie Team

DANBURY, Conn. -- Two Yale women's ice hockey players have been named to the All-ECAC Hockey Rookie Team, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. Defender Molly Boyle and goaltender Samson Frey were unanimous selections based on voting from the league's coaches.

Boyle has been a high-impact defender all season for the Bulldogs. The first-year averaged 1.33 points per game and led the league in assists with 20, finishing the regular season at +15. The Scituate, Mass., native played a key role in Yale securing the program's second ECAC Hockey regular-season title, alongside Princeton. She finished the regular season with 27 points, a program best for a defender, and won ECAC weekly honors four times.

Frey was the unanimous selection for the All-Rookie goaltender spot. Frey led all rookie goaltenders in save percentage (.937) and was first among all goaltenders for fewest goals against (17) in the ECAC. A New York native, Frey led the nation in goalie winning percentage (.933) and ranks second nationally in goals-against average (1.322), solidifying a remarkable debut season. Frey finished the regular season with a 14-1 record and five shutouts.

The Yale women's ice hockey team will host Union in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Hockey Tournament in the first game of a three-game series beginning Friday, Feb. 27 at Ingalls Rink.
