NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale softball team fell to the Cornell, 13-1 in five innings, to close out their Ivy League season series. Yale dropped to 6-12 overall and 1-2 in Ivy League play, while Cornell improved to 7-8 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Scoring Summary
- T1 – Cornell put two runners on base in its first two at-bats. Emma Harshberger, batting in the three-hole, cleared the bases with a three-run home run to put the Big Red on the board. (COR 3, YAL 0)
- T2 – The Big Red offense exploded in the second inning, scoring six runs on three hits to take a commanding 10-0 lead.
- B4 – Yale got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Jane Littleton singled to left field. Isabella Fortini followed with a double to left-center that scored Littleton. (COR 10, YAL 1)
- T5 – Cornell added three more runs on three hits to extend its lead to 13-1.Â
Notes
- Isabella Fortini went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. She has now recorded hits in three straight games.
- Ava Kainrath went 2-for-3 and has recorded hits in five straight games. Over that stretch, she has driven in eight RBIs in her last five contests.
- First-year Jane Littleton and sophomore Grace Westmoreland each added a hit. Westmoreland has hits in four straight games.
Looking Ahead
The Bulldogs will play six games in the upcoming week. On Tuesday, March 17, Yale will host Hofstra Pride for a single game. On Wednesday, March 18, Yale will travel to Smithfield, R.I., for a doubleheader against the Bryant Bulldogs. Yale then returns to Ivy League play March 21–22, hosting the Harvard Crimson for a three-game series.
