SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 5 Yale women's lacrosse team saw its seven-game winning streak snapped Tuesday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome, as No. 9 Syracuse topped the Bulldogs 6-5. The defensive struggle saw both goalies shine, with Syracuse's Danielle Goyette finishing with 10 saves and Yale's
Niamh Pfaff finishing with seven.
After the Orange jumped out to a 3-0 lead, Yale held Syracuse scoreless from 6:22 of the first until 8:37 of the second, a span of 12:45. That enabled the Bulldogs to close within 3-2. The teams then traded goals, leaving the score at 5-4 Syracuse entering the fourth. Senior attacker
Ashley Newman tied the game with a woman-up goal at 13:51 of the fourth, but the Orange eventually answered with a tally from Caroline Trinkaus at 9:06 and held on for the win.
Yale falls to 7-1 (1-0 Ivy League) on the season while Syracuse improves to 6-3 (3-2 ACC).

NOTES
- Yale held Syracuse to its second-lowest goal total of the year (tie). Only Maryland has held the Orange to fewer than six goals. The Terrapins, ranked No. 7 at the time, beat Syracuse 9-5 in the season opener Feb. 6.
- Pfaff limited Syracuse to a 1-for-6 performance on free position shots.
- This was the second year in a row that Yale started the season 7-0. The Bulldogs' most wins in a row to start a season is nine (1995 and 2024).
- Yale had won the last two games against Syracuse, beating the Orange 13-10 during the regular season and 9-8 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year. Both of those games were played at Reese Stadium.
- Yale is now 1-1 this season against nationally ranked teams.
