Softball Drops Midweek Doubleheader With Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Yale softball team dropped both games of a midweek doubleheader against Sacred Heart on Wednesday afternoon, losing game one by a 2-0 score and game two in walk-off fashion 3-2. As a result, the Bulldogs fall to 8-17 on the season and the Pioneers improve to 11-17.

Game 1: Fairfield 2, Yale 0
  • B4 | The Pioneers got on the board with a RBI single to left field. 1-0 SHU
  • B5 | Sacred Heart doubles its lead the following inning with a RBI double. 2-0 SHU 
  • Sienna Reynolds and Ellie Joseph combined for six innings of two-run pitching, striking out five Pioneer batters. 
  • Demi Donahoe and Jane Littleton both recorded hits for the Bulldogs.
  • The two Ellas, Cross and Gandolfo, both drew walks. 
  • Gandolfo also stole a base. 
Game 2: Fairfield 3, Yale 2
  • B1 | Sacred Heart scored first, notching an unearned run off a Yale error. 1-0 SHU
  • B3 | A RBI single doubled the lead for the Pioneers. 2-0 SHU
  • T4 | Isabella Fortini tied the game for the Bulldogs, plating both Elena Ohe and Ava Kang on a single. 2-2
  • B7 | The Pioneers walked off the Bulldogs with a lead-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. 3-2 SHU
  • Emma Taylor pitched a complete game for Yale, going six innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out seven. 
  • Fortini's two RBI make her the fifth Bulldog this season to reach the 10-RBI mark.
