No. 8 Bulldogs Pull Away for 16-8 Win at No. 19 Princeton

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 8 Yale women's lacrosse team broke open a 4-4 game with an 8-0 run Saturday afternoon at Class of 1952 Stadium, eventually coming away with a decisive 16-8 win vs. Princeton.

The first 16 minutes of the game were evenly matched, with neither team leading by more than two goals. But senior attacker Ashley Newman's goal with 13:19 left in the second quarter was followed quickly by a goal from first-year midfielder Meg Bohan that gave Yale a 6-4 lead. Junior attacker Ashley Kiernan added a goal shortly before halftime, and a Princeton goal just before the half ended was waved off because of a crease violation. Yale entered the break up 7-4.

The third quarter was all Yale, with the Bulldogs outscoring the Tigers 5-1. At one point in the fourth quarter Yale got the game to running time, as Newman's behind-the-back highlight reel goal made it 16-6. Two late goals by the Tigers concluded the scoring.
