Moynihan’s Game-Winner Lifts Bulldogs Past Fairfield in Overtime

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Peter Moynihan completed his first career hat trick just 44 seconds into overtime to put the Yale men's lacrosse team back in the win column with a 15-14 victory over Fairfield on Saturday afternoon at Rafferty Stadium.
 
Moynihan led a Yale attack that saw 10 players find the back of the net in the victory. Sean Grogan also picked up a hat trick for the Bulldogs.
 
With the victory, Yale improves to 3-2, and Fairfield drops to 3-2.

  • Q1 | After falling behind 2–0, Boudreau put the Bulldogs on the board with a goal at the 10:07 mark. Fairfield quickly responded with a goal of their own to restore the two-goal advantage. Yale then surged with three straight goals, capped by Moynihan's first of the day at 1:40 to give the Bulldogs their first lead, 4–3. The Stags answered with just nine seconds remaining in the quarter, sending the game into the second tied. 4-4
  • Q2 | The Bulldogs' offense surged in the quarter, scoring four straight goals — capped by Grogan's finish — to extend the lead to 8–4 with 5:39 remaining. The Stags answered with back-to-back goals, but Grogan and Cashion responded to restore the Bulldogs' four-goal cushion heading into halftime. 10-6 YALE
  • Q3 | Fairfield rattled off three straight goals to cut Yale's lead to one, 10–9, at the 8:17 mark. Gately and Grogan struck back-to-back before the Stags added another to pull within two, 12–10.
