No. 6 Yale Opens Ivy Play With 16-6 Win Over Columbia

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 6 Yale women's lacrosse team cruised past Columbia 16-6 in the Ivy League opener Saturday on a cloudy afternoon at Reese Stadium. The Bulldogs got hat tricks from three different players – first-year midfielder Meg Bohan, first-year midfielder Whitney Froeb and sophomore attacker Kelly Holmes. That was the first career hat trick for Froeb.

After Columbia scored to close within 2-1 at 11:03 of the first, the Bulldogs outscored the Lions 4-0 for the rest of the quarter. Those goals came from four different players – Bohan, Holmes, first-year midfielder Nell Ducey and senior attacker Ashley Newman

The Lions scored three times in the second quarter but the Bulldogs still came out of it with a sizable lead, 11-4. Yale then held Columbia scoreless until there were just 14 seconds left in the third quarter, and by then the Bulldogs had built a 15-4 lead. Each team scored once in the fourth.
