NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale men's basketball captain
Nick Townsend continued to add to his sensational career, as he was named an Academic All-America Second Team selection, as announced by College Sports Communicators. Townsend is the first Bulldog to earn the accolade since his brother Matt received the honor back in 2015.
Townsend, a Psychology major, has been stellar both in the classroom and on the court for the Bulldogs this season. The senior was named the 2026 Ivy League Player of the Year after leading Yale with 16.3 points per game, which ranked eighth in the conference. He also finished third in rebounding (7.4 per game) and second in assists (4.3 per game).
A native of Chappaqua, New York, Townsend reached double figures in 28 contests and recorded five double doubles. A two-time First Team All-Ivy selection, he was twice named Ivy League Player of the Week this season and also earned USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week honors.
Additionally, he is coming off a strong 14-point performance at the NABC Reese's All-Star Game, where he was one of six West players to score in double figures in a 110–93 victory over the East.
Townsend was joined on the second team by Tobe Awaka (Arizona), Flory Bidunga (Kansas), Tyler Lundblade (Belmont), and Xaivian Lee (Florida). He is one of just 15 players nationwide to earn All-America honors.
