Six-Run First Fuels Yale Past Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Yale softball team (11-23) erupted for six runs in the first inning and never looked back, powering past Fairfield (15-18) in an 11-3 run-rule victory on Wednesday afternoon.

Scoring Summary
  • T1 – Jane Littleton singled up the middle to give Yale its first baserunner of the game and later came around to score on a passed ball. Two batters later, Isabella Fortini singled through the right side to score Libby Peoples, and Kaitlyn Oikle followed with an RBI single to make it 4-0. The Bulldogs batted around, and with two outs, Littleton capped the inning with a two-RBI single to center field. (YAL 6, FFD 0)
  • B1 – With two outs and a runner on, Fairfield responded with an RBI single to get on the board. (YAL 6, FFD 1)
  • T2 – Yale continued its offensive surge in the second. After reaching on an error and a walk, the Bulldogs saw Oikle deliver again with a two-run double to left-center field. (YAL 8, FFD 1)
  • B2 – The Stags answered in the bottom half, loading the bases before Anna Paravati singled to center field with two outs to drive in a pair. (YAL 8, FFD 3)
  • T3 – For the third straight inning, Yale applied pressure at the plate. Littleton recorded her third hit of the game and advanced to third on a stolen base and wild pitch.   • T5 – With two outs and a runner on second, Ava Kang singled to right field to bring home a run and extend Yale's lead to nine.

  • Emma Taylor pitched a complete game for her fifth win of the season, striking out nine over five innings while allowing just three hits in the run-rule victory.
  • Taylor's nine strikeouts tied her single-game career-high, previously set against Hofstra on March 17, bringing her career total to 289—fourth all-time in program history.
  • Jane Littleton went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored, two stolen bases, and a walk.
  • Ella Cross finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Kaitlyn Oikle went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBI, and a run scored.
  • Lidia Palys recorded her first collegiate hit with a single in the fifth inning.
