NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale baseball team began the Ivy League Tournament in emphatic fashion, routing Columbia 12-3 on Friday afternoon at George H.W. Bush '48 Field. The top-seeded Bulldogs utilized strong pitching and situational hitting to get past the Lions in the opening game of the conference tournament.
With the victory, Yale will play the winner of No. 2 Penn and No. 3 Brown on Saturday afternoon. The Elis sit firmly in the winners' bracket in the double-elimination event. The Bulldogs improved to 28-13-1 overall, matching their fourth-highest single-season win total in program history. Columbia dropped to 15-24-1.
Key Performers
• Starting pitcher Jack Ohman delivered a gritty effort on the mound for the Bulldogs, tossing five innings of two-run ball. He stranded six runners on base and struck out five.
• Teo Spadaccini was fantastic in relief of Ohman. The junior retired all nine batters he faced, getting the Bulldogs through the eighth inning.
• Chris DiPrima went 2-for-4 with a massive bases-clearing double in the fourth.
