NEW YORK -- Yale women's cross country and track and field alum Kayley DeLay '21 MPH '23 will compete in the 5000m at the USATF Outdoor Championships at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island in New York, N.Y., this weekend. 
 
DeLay set the school record in the 5000m, 15:39.11, in 2022. Her personal best is now 15:05.96 (set in 2024). Her time of 15:07.77 on July 12, 2025 at the Sunset Tour at Jack Kemp Stadium in Los Angeles put her in position to earn a spot in this year's USATF Outdoor Championships. 
 
DeLay also qualified for the Championships with her 3000m steeplechase time of 9:28.39 from last August, but she has scratched in that event and will focus on the 5K. 
 
DeLay has an extensive history competing at the USATF Outdoor Championships/U.S. Olympic Team Trials, though this is just her second time competing in the 5K (last year she placed 11th with a time of 15:27.67). She competed in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2025 Olympic Team Trials, finishing 12th with a time of 9:29.07. At the 2023 Championships she placed 12th in the steeplechase with a time of 9:43.06 and in 2022 she placed 10th in the SC with a time of 9:46.91. She competed at the Olympic Team Trials in 2021, finishing 23rd in the steeplechase with a time of 9:58.87.
 
This past February, DeLay competed at the USA Indoor Championships. She placed seventh in the 3000m with a time of 8:50.61.
 
DeLay, who won six individual Ivy League championships while at Yale, owns the best time in the steeplechase (9:25.08, 2022) in school history. She finished second at the NCAA Championships with that time, earning first team All-America recognition. 
 
In 2022 DeLay earned Yale's Nellie Pratt Elliot Award, given to the senior female student-athlete whose excellence in the field of athletics and in her life at Yale best represents the ideals of sportsmanship and Yale tradition. She competed for the University of Washington as a grad student in 2022-23, earning second team All-America honors in the steeplechase. 
 
A native of Jacksonville, Fla., DeLay is a graduate of Fletcher High School. 
 
The USATF Championships women's 5000m final, which includes 18 entries, takes place at 4:41 p.m. on Sunday. Parker Valby has the top U.S. time this season, 14:39.88.
