Thorvaldsdottir’s Strike Lifts Yale Past New Hampshire on the Road

DURHAM, N.H. – Paced by a second-half goal from Anita Thorvaldsdottir, the Yale women's soccer team got back in the win column Sunday afternoon, shutting out New Hampshire, 1-0, at Wildcat Stadium.
 
With the victory, the Bulldogs improved to 3-3-0, and the Wildcats dropped to 3-2-2.
 
"Proud of our group for bouncing back from an emotional result on Thursday," said Sarah Martinez, the Loring Family Head Coach of Women's Soccer. "That shows the growth we've had as a team and that's what we've been focused on. They came out and controlled the tempo for the entire game as we asked. Would have loved to be more efficient in the final third but what a goal by Anita to secure that win for us."

  • 1' | The Wildcats nearly got on the board early when a corner kick found Abby Beasley, who headed the ball into the net. However, Yale challenged the play for interference with the goalkeeper, and the goal was ultimately overturned.
  • 69' | After Karoline Hernes played the ball wide to Tana Sands on the right side, Sands pushed it forward to Thorvaldsdottir. Thorvaldsdottir maintained possession in the right corner before unleashing a beautiful left-footed strike into the top-left corner, beating the New Hampshire goalkeeper and scoring the lone goal of the game. 1-0 YALE
