Brad Rose Scores For Bulldogs
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brad Rose's goal in the 66th minute helped
the Yale men's soccer team earn a 1-1 tie with Adelphi in the
opening game of the adidas Brown Classic at Stevenson Field. The
game was ruled a tie after 75 minutes, 12 seconds of play and a
90-minute lightning delay. NCAA rules state that a game is official
after 70 minutes of play and cannot be resumed once the delay
reaches 90 minutes.
The stoppage was unfortunate for the Bulldogs, who seemed to
have the momentum on their side after Rose's tying goal. Yale
(0-0-2) had four straight shots on goal before the game was
stopped.
"We were really playing well when the game was called, but it is
one of those things you can't do much about," said Yale head coach
Brian Tompkins.
Adelphi (1-0-2) broke a 0-0 tie in the first minute of the
second half when Alex Kouznetsov scored on a penalty kick.
Charlie Neil set up the tying goal when he sent a nice cross to
Rose, who fired a shot over the goalkeeper's head from the center
of the box.
Yale outshot the Panthers 8-5 and had a 4-1 edge in corner
kicks.
Travis Chulick made two saves in goal for the Bulldogs, while
Kyle Blackmer stopped five shots for Adelphi.
"I was really pleased with the way we played," Tompkins said.
"We tightened up defensively and moved the ball well."
The Bulldogs returns to Providence to take on SMU on Sunday at
noon.
