Bulldogs Look For 4th Straight Win
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale men's
lacrosse team (7-2, 2-2 Ivy), on a three-game win streak that has
put them 16th in at least one national poll, takes a
break from Ivy League play on Tuesday for a road trip to Providence
to take on the Friars (0-8, 0-2 Big East). Opening face-off is set
for 7 p.m. at Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
This will be the third meeting of the Bulldogs and Friars, all
in the last four years. It will be the first ever in Rhode Island.
Yale won 11-5 in 2006 at Boca Raton, Fla., while grabbing an 11-10
OT decision in March of 2009 at Reese Stadium.
The Elis, 5-0 this year in non-league games, are coming off a
dominating, 8-3 win at Dartmouth last Saturday. Matt
Gibson got five of those goals while Brian
Douglass (2 goals) and Gregory
Mahony also hit the net. Douglass leads the Ivies with 2.89
goals per game.
Johnathan
Falcone stopped 15 shots and did not allow a Big Green tally
for the first 37 minutes as Yale took a 6-0 lead and cruised to
even its Ivy League mark.
The Blue, ranked 16th in the laxnews.com poll, is in
fourth place in a tightly packed league race that will ultimately
produce a four-team post-season playoff tournament May 7-9.
PC is coming off a 13-5 league loss at St. John's on
Saturday. The Friars were led by sophomore midfielder
Jake Nolan who matched a career-high with three assists. Sophomore
Christian
Dzwilewski played the first 45 minutes in net, making a career-best
13 saves while allowing 12 goals. Senior Frank Cicero played the
final quarter and made one save.
Yale heads back to Providence on Saturday for its second to last
Ivy League game, a 1 p.m. face-off against Brown, before finishing
off the 2010 regular season with two home games.
