NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's soccer team has three
games left before the start of Ivy League play on Oct 2 at Harvard.
Two will be in the friendly confines of Reese Stadium. The one road
trip is Tuesday, but it won't take the Bulldogs very far from
campus. Yale makes the short journey up I-91 to meet Quinnipiac at
4 p.m.
The Bulldogs (1-5) hope to build on Saturday's thrilling 2-1
overtime victory over Sacred Heart. Andy
Hackbarth scored the winning goal on a penalty kick
late in the second extra period. There were a number of positives
in the game. Yale's defensive pressure forced Sacred Heart into a
number of turnovers. Offensively, the Bulldogs generated good
pressure. A pair of freshmen teamed up to account for Yale's
goal. Cody
Wilkins dribbled down the near side and sent a perfect
cross to Peter
Jacobson, who banged it in.
Quinnipiac (0-4) has struggled to score goals early in the
season. The Bobcats' only goal came in a 2-1 loss to Loyola, Md.,
on Sept. 11. George Ellis has started three games in goal and has a
1.70 goals against average.
Yale and Quinnipiac played a spirited 1-1 tie last year in New
Haven. The two goals were scored 33 seconds apart late in the first
half. Scott
Armbrust scored for the Bulldogs, while Dwayne Mars
had the Bobcats goal.
