Box Score Haddad, Pensavalle Score
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Cornell women's ice hockey team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 4:06 against Yale Saturday afternoon, and that early deficit proved to be too much for the Bulldogs to overcome. After freshman forward Courtney Pensavalle pulled Yale within 2-1 with a tally right after Cornell scored its second goal, the Big Red scored twice in the second period and twice in the third for a 6-2 win. Junior forward Jamie Haddad had Yale's other goal.
Cornell (2-4-0, 2-2-0 ECAC Hockey), coming off a 5-1 win vs. Brown Friday, outshot Yale 12-4 in the first period while taking that 2-1 lead. Pensavalle's goal was assisted by Haddad and senior forward Jackie Raines.
The Big Red increased the lead to 3-1 on a goal by defenseman Taylor Woods early in the second, and killed off a penalty right after that. A power play goal at 7:45 by defenseman Erin O'Connor kept momentum in Cornell's favor, and the Bulldogs had three power plays come up empty later in the second. Two Big Red goals in a 30-second span early in the third effectively put the game out of reach. Haddad scored with 5:04 remaining off assists by senior defenseman Aurora Kennedy and sophomore forward Krista Yip-Chuck.
O'Connor led all scorers with three points (1-2-3). Woods had a pair of goals.
Senior goaltender Jaimie Leonoff finished with 26 saves for the Bulldogs.
Yale (3-3-1, 1-3-0 ECAC Hockey) hosts Sacred Heart Friday at 7:00 p.m.
