Box Score Bobcats Score Winner In Overtime
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac goalkeeper Borja Angoitia is approaching a couple of career school records. He showed why on Friday against Yale. Angoitia made a few big saves in the second half and that bought the Bobcats enough time to finally get the game-winner. It came late in the first overtime period on the first career goal from Raphael Carvalho.
Carvalho found himself with the ball inside the box and fired a shot just out of the reach of Yale goalkeeper Blake Brown.
Angoitia finished with six saves to record his 18th career shutout, four shy of the all-time Quinnipiac record. He also recorded his 25th career win, which is one less than the school record.
It was another frustrating offensive day for the Bulldogs, who were shutout for the fifth straight game.
Yale (0-5-2) outshot the Bobcats 9-4 in the second half and overtime and 11-9 in the game.
Angoitia's best saves of the second half came late and both denied Teddy Mauze. First he made a diving save on Mauze with five minutes remaining and then shortly thereafter stopped Mauze on a breakaway.
The Bulldogs had the first two shots of overtime but couldn't capitalize.
Brown made three saves in the Yale goal.
Quinnipiac (3-4-1) has won two straight games.
The Bulldogs are off until Tuesday night when they host Fairleigh Dickinson. Kickoff at Reese Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.
