Weisenbach Belts First Career Home Run, Brennan Knocks In Five Runs

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Yale built some positive momentum for a key Ivy League four-game weekend series with Dartmouth by sweeping Hartford at the UH Softball Field. Hannah Brennan's two-run single in the sixth inning snapped a 4-4 tie and lifted the Bulldogs to a 6-4 victory over the Hawks in the first game. Laina Do had two hits and knocked in two runs as Yale completed the sweep with a 5-1 victory in a second game that was shortened to five innings due to darkness.

The Bulldogs (7-12) got a pair of well-pitched games. Francesca Casalino struck out nine and yielded only three earned runs to earn her fifth win of the season in the opener. Lindsay Efflandt pitched a three-hitter and struck out three in the second game.

Brennan had three hits and knocked in five runs in the two games. Camille Weisenbach also had three hits, including her first career home run.

Do and Sydney Glover drew walks to start the winning rally in the sixth inning of the first game. Weisenbach singled to load the bases, and Brennan followed with a single up the middle that scored Do and Glover.

Hartford opened the bottom of the sixth inning with a pair of singles, but Casalino worked out of the jam.

Yale had taken a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Allison Skinner singled, Weisenbach reached on an error and Brennan delivered a two-run double.

Riley Hughes' RBI in the third made it 3-0, but the Hawks responded with four runs in the fourth.

Weisenbach, though, tied it at 4-4 with her home run to right field in the fifth.

In the second game, the Bulldogs scored four runs in the fifth inning to snap a 1-1 tie. Brennan was again in the middle of the rally, singling home Skinner with the first run of the inning. Do later drove home Sarah Onorato and pinch runner Ceri Godinez on a single.

After Efflandt retired Hartford (2-27) in order in the bottom of the fifth inning, the decision was made to end the game due to darkness.

Yale's Alexa Caruso scored the first run of the game on a passed ball in the top of the fourth inning, but Hartford tied it with a run in the bottom of the fourth.

The Bulldogs outhit the Hawks 7-3 in the game. Brittany Labbadia and Sydney Ginsberg were among the Yale players with hits.

The Bulldogs host Dartmouth in doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. The first pitch both days is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
