Depth Carries No. 2 Yale Past No. 6 St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. — The Yale Bulldogs began a challenging weekend road trip on the right foot, grinding out a 6-3 win over St. Lawrence on Saturday.

Although the Saints (5-2) took the top three matches, it was Yale (5-0, 3-0 Ivy) that claimed victory as the Bulldogs pulled six wins out of the bottom six slots.

The contest was closely fought at each position. Yale came up short at the top of the lineup despite competing evenly with a talented St. Lawrence trio. Strong play through the middle resulted in wins in a number of back-and-forth matches, including a 3-2 victory from sophomore Arjun Kochhar in the eigth spot.

While the squad is pleased with the positive result, the Bulldogs will have to move on immediately to the next task, a meeting with No. 7 Rochester on Sunday. Like Yale, the host Yellowjackets will enter the match on a high note, having completed an impressive 9-0 sweep of No. 8 Columbia on Saturday. The Bulldogs, for their part, beat the Lions 7-2 last Sunday.

The match between Yale and Rochester will begin at noon.
