HANOVER, N.H. — Yale clinched at least a share of the 2015-16 Ivy League title on Friday night with an 8-1 victory over Dartmouth. Eager to secure their first conference championship since 2011, the Bulldogs took six wins from the first six matches to put the result out of doubt.
Coach Dave Talbott said the team came out "high energy and focused" against a historically strong Dartmouth squad that had beaten No. 6 Harvard and No. 13 Princeton this season.
Senior captain Sam Fenwick set the tone with a 3-0 win in the first match of the day at the No. 3 spot. Sophomores Arjun Kocchar and Max Martin followed up with victories of their own to put the team up 3-0.
The second wave carried the Bulldogs to victory, as sophomore Thomas Kingshott joined juniors Liam McClintock and TJ Dembinski to take three matches in dominant fashion — dropping just one game in total.
"The title was a strong group effort with all 16 players being equally committed to get this Ivy title. Not sharing it is the goal on Sunday," said Talbott.
The championship implications for Sunday's match against Harvard will magnify an already storied rivalry, promising both drama and excellent squash as the Bulldogs seek sole possession of the Ivy League Championship.
The decisive match will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Brady Squash Center.
