Bulldogs Undefeated in Doubleheader, Improve Record to 4-5
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Bulldogs cruised past Fairfield University and Long Island University on Sunday at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. In winning 7-0 against both teams, Yale took all 18 matches that day and dropped only four games against Fairfield.
Competing first against Fairfield at 10:00 a.m, the Bulldogs quickly secured the doubles point. Playing at No. 1 doubles, senior Madeleine Hamilton and junior Tina Jiang won 6-1, while senior captain Ree Ree Li and sophomore Valerie Shklover also dropped only one game in their 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. Juniors Sherry Li and Caroline Lynch blanked their opponents 6-0 to top off the doubles sweep.
The singles match-ups saw impressive performances from Yale's freshmen, as Caroline Amos, Sonal Shrivastava and Amy Yang did not drop a single game in their 6-0, 6-0 victories against their respective opponents. R. Li also achieved a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Sherry Li and sophomore Elizabeth Zordani dropped only one game in their respective singles matches, both winning 6-0, 6-1.
The Bulldogs then took on LIU at 2:00 p.m. Yale's doubles pairs continued to dominate, as Hamilton and Jiang won 6-3, R. Li and Shklover won 6-0 and Sherry Li and Lynch won 6-2.
Yale played a slightly different singles line-up from the morning but nonetheless continued their winning streak. Sherry Li moved up to No. 1 singles to play her fourth match of the day. Although she was defeated 6-4 in the first set, she managed a comeback after taking the second 6-1 and winning the super tiebreak 10-2 for a final score of 6-4, 6-1, 1-0(2).
Playing at No. 2 singles, Yang eased past her opponent 6-1, 6-0, dropping her first and only game of the day. Third in the line-up, Shklover triumphed 6-2, 6-1, and playing at No. 4, Zordani won the first set 6-2 before her opponent retired. At No. 5 singles, Shrivastava won 6-1, 6-3, and Lynch cruised past her opponent 6-0, 6-1 to round off Yale's sweep.

The team's victories against Fairfield and LIU improve Yale's record for the regular season to 4-5. The Bulldogs will have about two weeks before competing at home against Stony Brook University in Yale's last match before spring break. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 5.
