NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Following a tough match against No. 4 Princeton yesterday, the Yale women's squash team suffered a 9-0 loss to the No. 2 Penn Quakers this afternoon. This marks the first time this season the No. 5 Bulldogs (10-3, 3-2 Ivy) have lost two matches in a row.

The Penn women, who are ranked second nationally behind Harvard, showed why they are competing for a national title this year. After winning the top four spots yesterday versus Princeton, the Yale women were unable to gain momentum for most of today's match.

The Bulldogs had several bright moments from today, especially from their underclassmen. Freshman Lucy Beecroft showed strong play in the two spot, scoring 34 points and winning a game against Penn's Melissa Alves despite losing the match 3-1 (11-6,10-12,11-6,12-10).  Fellow freshman Jessica Yacobucci also played well in the nine spot versus Clare Kearns, taking the match to five games but eventually losing 11-8,4-11,12-10,9-11,11-8.

The Bulldogs have five days to recover and prepare for Friday's match against No. 11 Dartmouth, the team's last home match of the season.
