NEW HAVEN, Conn. - After a 4-1 finish at last week's tournament, the men's fencing team will be competing in the Philadelphia Invitational, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. Over the course of two days, the Bulldogs will face seven schools. They have been training hard and the saber squad is especially hopeful about their chances with the addition of new coach, Michael Kim. "With Coach Kim's expertise, I'm sure we can take our fencing to the next level," said Andrew Zhang.
This weekend, the Bulldogs will start the day facing off against NJIT. According to Daniel Flesch, "They're a strong team and have given us trouble in the past but I'm confident that with our current team we can be successful against them."
A match-up against NYU will mark the end of Yale's first day of competition. While NYU is a strong contender, the Bulldogs are hoping to have the edge this time around.
At the beginning of their second day, Yale will go up against perennial powerhouse Ohio State, a team that is always well represented at NCAA Championships.
Next Yale will face UPenn. While the Quakers are excellent, the Bulldogs have a talented, hardworking team this year and are hopeful about their chances of victory.
The Bulldogs have never crossed swords with Lafayette, but are scheduled to face off against them. Walter Musgrave feels good about Yale's chances of victory against this new opponent, citing his teammates' hard work and talent.
Their last bout of the day will be against Drew. The Bulldogs defeated them last year and hope to do the same this time around.
