HARTFORD, Conn. — The Elis fell to Stanford in round one of the CSA National Championships (the Howe Cup) by a score of 5-4.
No. 1 Lucy Beecroft, No. 2 Helen Teegan, No. 3 Celine Yeap and No. 4 Emily Sherwood all notched wins on the afternoon. Both Beecroft and Sherwood swept their opponents, both also avenging losses to the same opponents earlier in the season.
No. 6 Riya Mital, whose match was the deciding match of the afternoon, fought hard and took her match to five games. After going down 0-2, Mital won two straight games before losing 12-10 in the final game.
Also winning on the afternoon was Harvard (over Drexel), Trinity (over Penn) and Princeton (over Columbia). Harvard faces Stanford tomorrow and Trinity faces Princeton. Yale plays Drexel tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
