NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The season is only two weeks old, but the Yale men's soccer team has already made a couple of long road trips to Western New York. So the Bulldogs will certainly appreciate spending a week at home. Yale hosts Fairfield on Wednesday and then has a Saturday night date with Stony Brook. Both are 7 p.m. kickoffs at Reese Stadium. Here are notes on a busy week at home

* At 2-0-2, the Bulldogs are off to their best start since the 2005 team began the season 3-0-3.
* The Bulldogs received 13 votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches national top-25 poll.

* Yale is the only unbeaten team in the Ivy League.

Ryan Matteo was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll on Monday. Matteo scored two goals as the Bulldogs knocked off UConn 3-0 last Wednesday in the home opener at Reese.

Mark Winhoffer leads the Ivy League in points with seven. He has scored or had an assist in three of Yale's four games.

* Six different Bulldogs have scored at least one goal. Winhoffer, Matteo and
Miguel Yuste each have two.

Elian Haddock is third in the league with a 0.90 goals against average.

HISTORY LESSONS

Yale leads the all-time series with Fairfield 13-12-2, but the Stags have won the last nine meetings, including a 2-1 victory last fall. All nine wins came by one goal. Last year's game was played at Quinnipiac while new turf was being installed at Reese. Yale's last win over Fairfield came in 2004, 3-1 in New Haven.

Yale and Stony Brook are playing for the first time since 2008, a 4-1 Bulldog victory at Reese. Saturday will be the fourth meeting between the teams, and the series is even at 1-1-1.

SCOUTING FAIRFIELD

The Stags (1-1-2) are coming off a 4-1 loss to No. 21 New Hampshire on Saturday. Fairfield owns a victory over Saint Joseph's and has tied Rhode Island and Stony Brook. The Stags were chosen as the top team in the 2019 MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Fairfield picked up four of the 11 possible first-place votes and tallied 107 total points to edge Quinnipiac. Carl Rees, the 2018 MAAC Coach of the Year, is in his 24
th season as the head coach at Fairfield.

SCOUTING STONY BROOK
The Seawolves (1-3-1) play at Hofstra on Wednesday. Stony Brook is coming off a 2-1 win over Siena last Friday. Jarred Dass has scored three of the Seawolves' five goals. Stony Brook, which captured the 2018 America East regular season title, was picked second in this year's preseason poll.
