Ivy League Play Starts Friday vs. Brown

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Ivy League portion of the schedule starts Friday for the Yale women's basketball team as the Bulldogs host Brown at 5:00 p.m. (ESPN+, WYBC). The game is part of a doubleheader, as the Yale men's basketball team hosts the Bears at 7:30 p.m.

Last Game
Yale (10-3, 0-0 Ivy League) started 2020 with a 68-60 win vs. Mercer at Lee Amphitheater Jan. 2. After a free throw by senior guard Roxy Barahman (Calabasas, Calif.) gave the Bulldogs a 59-58 lead with 2:37 to play, they reeled off a remarkable four steals -- and a block by sophomore forward Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) -- in a span of less than 90 seconds to help keep the lead intact. Mercer's only score in the final 2:37 of the game was a jumper in the waning seconds. Emsbo finished with a team- best 20 points and 11 rebounds, her fifth double-double of the season.

Lucky 13
With the win vs. Wagner, Yale tied the school mark for best record after 13 games. The only other Yale squad to get to 10-3 was the 1976-77 team, which lost its next game to drop to 10-4 before finishing the season 15-5.

Keeping their Distance
Yale's 87-68 win vs. Wagner on Dec. 31 marked the fifth time this season the Bulldogs have won a game by at least 15 points. That is already more times than they did so last season (four).

RPI and the Ivy League
Based on RPI through Jan. 15, here are the Ivy League women's basketball team rankings entering the first full weekend of league play:
18. Princeton
51. Yale
121. Penn
145. Harvard
151. Cornell
154. Dartmouth
169. Columbia
241. Brown

Down the Road
Friday is Yale's last home game for nearly a month, as the Bulldogs do not return to Lee Amphitheater until Feb. 14. Yale plays five games on the road during that stretch. The Bulldogs have gone 45-22 (.672) at Lee since the start of the 2014-15 season.

New Kid on the Blocks Record Lists
With 84 career blocks, sophomore forward Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) needs just two more blocks to tie Jen Berkowitz '18 for fifth on Yale's career list. Erica Davis '07 is Yale's all-time leader (182). Davis also holds the Yale single-season record (63, set in 2006-07) and Emsbo is on pace to break that this year. She has 32 blocks in 13 games, which projects to 66 blocks for the regular season.

Scouting Brown
Brown (6-7, 0-0 Ivy League) has won three of its last four, though its last game will have been 18 days ago by the time we get to Friday night. With nine of 14 players on the roster freshmen or sophomores, the Bears are a relatively young squad. Senior guard Justine Gaziano is the team's top scorer, ranking second in the Ivy League in scoring (16.9 points per game). She is shooting .406 from three-point range, second-best in the league.
