Men's Track and Field Harrison Smith

Rochon and Dunn Perform Strongly at Crimson Elite

BOSTON, Mass.Andrew Rochon and Jack Dunn continued to build the Yale men's track and field team's momentum when they competed at the Crimson Elite Invitational at Harvard Friday.

In the shot put, Rochon finished fourth – the same position he was seeded – with an impressive effort of 14.99m (49' 2.25"), just 28cm off his PR. He was the second-placed Ivy League athlete in the competition and his consistency in the event – he has now thrown 15.08m, 15.00m and 14.99m on three successive weekends – will be a source of strength and confidence for the Bulldogs.

He was then joined by Dunn in the weight throw. Once again, the men performed at their potential; placing close to their seeded positions. Dunn finished fifth with a throw of 16.00m (52' 6"), which placed him second of the Ivy League athletes competing and is just 34cm shy of the PR he set at Dartmouth earlier in the year. In a clear demonstration of the ferocity of the competition, Rochon finished eighth, launching the weight 15.85m; the majority of the athletes were separated by no more than half a meter.

The throwers have now proved that they are at a different level to that which they were at last year, a testament to the work of their coach, Duke Taylor. At this time 12 months ago, Rochon threw 14.81m in the shot-put and 15.57m in the weight throw, while Dunn threw the weight 15.69m. The whole team will compete against Harvard and Princeton at home next weekend where they will hope to replicate the consistency that the throwers showed Friday.
