NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's basketball team swept through New York as the calendar turned from January to February, winning at Columbia Jan. 31 and at Cornell Feb. 1. Now, the Bulldogs attempt to repeat those results at home as the Ivy League's Empire State duo visits Lee Amphitheater -- Columbia Friday (6:00 p.m.,
ESPN+) and Cornell Saturday (4:00 p.m.,
ESPN+).
Last Weekend
Yale (15-6, 5-3 Ivy League) fell to No. 25 Princeton and Penn last weekend at Lee Amphitheater. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 12-0 lead on the Tigers Friday before the game settled into a defensive battle, with Princeton eventually pulling out a 55-39 win. Senior guard
Roxy Barahman (Calabasas, Calif.) led Yale with 13 points. On Saturday vs. Penn the Bulldogs led 32-27 at halftime before the Quakers rallied for a 53-51 win. Senior forward
Megan Gorman (Vero Beach, Fla.) had 13 points and 16 rebounds, one shy of her career high.
Sharing the Ball
Yale has three players in the top 11 in the Ivy League in scoring: senior guard
Roxy Barahman (Calabasas, Calif.) (third, 16.8 points per game), sophomore forward
Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) (fifth, 15.4 points per game) and junior guard
Ellen Margaret Andrews (Dallas, Texas) (11th, 13.1 points per game). No other Ivy League school has that many in the top 11, and Cornell and Princeton are the only schools with two in the top 11.
Closing in on the Top 5
Senior guard
Roxy Barahman (Calabasas, Calif.) is within striking distance of the top five on Yale's all-time scoring list entering this weekend. She needs 11 points to move into sole possession of sixth and 16 points to move into sole possession of fifth. Here are Yale's top seven scorers:

Sophomore forward
Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) needs seven blocks to surpass her own mark from last season and move into sole possession of third on Yale's single-season blocks record list. She enters the weekend 17 blocks away from Yale's single-season blocks record, 63, set by
Erica Davis '07 in 2006-07. Emsbo has at least one block in every game this season, and has 21 straight games with a block dating back to last season.
Play4Kay Pink Game
Saturday is Yale's "Play4Kay" Pink Game. The Bulldogs are raising money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund's mission is to extend and improve the lives of those who are battling cancer, on our way to finding a cure, by raising money for research and assisting the underserved.
Fans can support the cause by pledging donations for each free throw the Bulldogs make during the month of February, or by making a flat donation. Pledges can be made at
https://pledgeit.org/yale-play4kay.
The Bulldogs' efforts are part of a national program in memory of Kay Yow, former head coach of the North Carolina State women's basketball team and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Coach Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.
At Saturday's game the Bulldogs will also host dozens of Girl Scout troops.
Scouting Cornell
Cornell (9-11, 2-6 Ivy League) has dropped five in a row, starting with a 74-67 loss to Yale in Ithaca earlier this month. The Bulldogs trailed by 16 points in the third quarter of that game, but rallied behind 26 points from senior guard
Roxy Barahman (Calabasas, Calif.) and a double-double from sophomore forward
Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) (24 points, 10 rebounds).
The Big Red features forward Laura Bagwell-Katalinich, who is ninth in the Ivy League in scoring (13.7 points per game) and sixth in rebounding (7.2 rebounds per game).
Scouting Columbia
Columbia (13-8, 4-4 Ivy League), which visits Brown Friday, enjoyed a historic weekend last weekend in sweeping Dartmouth and Harvard at home. That was the Lions' first Ivy League weekend sweep since 2011 and the first time they have ever swept Dartmouth-Harvard. First year guard Abbey Hsu earned Ivy League Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors for her efforts, averaging 25.0 points and shooting 55.2 percent.
Yale beat Columbia 85-60 when these teams met earlier in the season. Senior guard
Roxy Barahman (Calabasas, Calif.) scored 20 points and junior guard
Tori Andrew (St. Louis, Mo.) added 19 and senior forward
Megan Gorman (Vero Beach, Fla.) had seven assists.
