Lovejoy Earns All-America Status

Captain Gets Third Straight Honor

NEW HAVEN, Conn.Spencer Lovejoy, the captain of the Yale Men's Squash Team, was named Collegiate Squash Association First-Team All-America for the third straight season.

Lovejoy was also the recipient of the 2020 Skillman Award, presented to a senior men's squash player who has demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship during his entire college career while maintaining a high level of play. He recently finished his collegiate career among the top eight at the CSA Individual National Championships.

"I am excited to be named All-American this year and for the third year in a row. Overall, throughout my college career the level of play has only gotten stronger each year, and I am very encouraged to see that I can compete with, and beat, these players who are also among the top pro players globally," said Lovejoy, a Branford, Conn., native.

Lovejoy won five of his seven league matches. One of those victories was a five-game, 67-minute contest that helped the Elis win at Princeton this winter. He plans to take his success in the college game to the next level.

"I feel that my game has vastly improved throughout my career at Yale thanks to hard work and great guidance here, and I am excited to see how far I can go on the pro tour."

"Spencer has been a great leader this year as captain, and he has had a great four years," said David Talbott, Yale's Brooks G. Ragen Director of Squash. "Lynn Leong (Yale's Associate Head Coach) taught Spencer to play squash when he was eight years old at the New Haven Lawn Club.  Spencer went on to put Hopkins School on the squash map before developing into one of the top players in college squash at Yale.  We all look forward to Spencer playing full time when the PSA Tour returns to action."
