PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Yale squash captain
Spencer Lovejoy, ranked No. 8 in men's college squash, opened play at the CSA Individual Championships by winning his first match in five games and then he ran into one of the nation's top players.
Lovejoy was competing in the A draw for the Pool Trophy at the new courts of the Penn Squash Center. He knocked off 11th seed Ashley Davies of Rochester in five games in the round of 16 before having to face No. 2 Miko Aijanen of Trinity. Lovejoy pushed his highly ranked opponent close to the limit before falling 3-1.
Nadav Raziel (ranked 13th), also in the top draw, lost to the No. 6 seed from Harvard.
Harrison Gill (18),
Calvin McCafferty (40) and
Eric Kim (42) were playing in the Molloy Division, also known as the B draw. Gill and Kim both won 3-0 in the first round before Gill advanced to Saturday with another sweep in his second match. He plays Noel Heaton of Drexel at 3:25 p.m.
