NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's soccer team has much to play for in its regular season finale at Princeton on Saturday. The Bulldogs, who were eliminated from the Ivy League title race last weekend, could still finish unbeaten in league play. They enter the game with a 4-0-2 Ivy mark. Kickoff at Sherrerd Field is slated for 4 p.m.
Here are notes on the final Ivy game:
* Only twice in Ivy League history has a team gone unbeaten in Ivy play and not claimed at least a share of the league crown. In 1956, Cornell finished 4-0-2 but was one point behind Yale, and in 1991 Columbia was 4-0-3 but finished one point behind Yale.
* The Bulldogs are unbeaten in their last eight games. Their last loss came to UMass, 1-0, on Sept. 28.
* Yale has allowed only two goals in Ivy play. The second came last Saturday when Brown scored with only four seconds remaining and the Bulldogs in front 2-0.
*
Kahveh Zahiroleslam continues to pile up Ivy League weekly awards. Zahiroleslam, who scored both goals in Saturday's 2-1 win over Brown, was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season. He now has seven goals on the season, which is tied for fourth in the Ivy League.
* Goalkeeper
Elian Haddock leads the league with four shutouts.
* The Bulldogs have won each of the last three meetings with Princeton, including 2-1 in 2019.
SCOUTING PRINCETON
The Tigers have already secured an outright Ivy League championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. They have won seven matches in a row dating back to October 9, outscoring opponents 17-4 over that span. With a win on Saturday, Princeton will secure just the second 7-0-0 Ivy season in program history. Princeton's seven-match winning streak is the third-longest active streak in the country.
