YALE GAME NOTES
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale Men's Ice Hockey Team, which last played games at the Holiday Face-Off Tournament on Dec. 28-29, has a challenging home conference set this weekend. The Bulldogs play No. 9 Cornell on Saturday at 7 p.m. before facing Colgate on Sunday at 7 p.m. Both games air live on ESPN+ with no fans in attendance.
SERIES
The Big Red have an 88-63-8 lead over the Elis since the first meeting in 1901-02. The Bulldogs, with wins in five of the last seven, have a 53-51-6 edge in the Colgate series which began in 1916-17.
LAST MEETINGS
The Raiders and Big Red came to New Haven earlier this season and won 3-0 games. Colgate outshot Yale 24-14 with
Connor Hopkins in net, while Cornell had a 25-14 advantage against Eli goalie
Luke Pearson.
BULLDOGS
Yale, which erased a two-goal deficit to force OT against Wisconsin on Dec. 28, is coming off a pair of one-goal losses at Milwaukee's Holiday Face-Off.
Henry Wagner and
Briggs Gammill got their first collegiate goals and
Teddy Wooding had the other tally at Fiserv Forum.
Nathan Reid had 21 saves against the Badgers, while
Connor Hopkins stopped 23 shots against Bowling Green.
BIG RED
Cornell (11-3-1, 6-1-1 ECAC) is coming off a sweep at North Dakota last weekend. Rookie Ian Shane, in his first two starts, stopped 23 of 26 and then 32 of 33 in 4-3 and 3-1 wins over UND. This came after the Red fell twice at Arizona State by a combined 8-4. Senior forward Max Andreev and junior Matt Stienburg lead the team with eight goals and 19 points.
RAIDERS
Colgate (8-12-0, 3-5-0 ECAC), which fell twice at Northern Michigan last week, is on a five-game skid. Junior forward Colton Young has a team-high 11 goals and 19 points, while sophomore Carter Gylander (2.76, 7-8-0) has most of the time in net.
