NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's tennis team is scheduled to begin its spring season this weekend at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. The Bulldogs host Buffalo on Friday at 4 p.m., and Fairfield visits on Sunday at noon. The match with Fairfield was originally scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. but was moved because of the weather forecast. Both matches will be streamed live by Stretch Internet.

Yale was supposed to host Temple on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. but that match has been postponed due to the threat of inclement weather.

It was a successful fall season for the Bulldogs, who competed in a number of tournaments and fared very well. Most notable was a strong showing at the ITA Northeast Regionals in October. Michael Sun advanced to the quarterfinals in singles, knocking off Columbia's Alex Kotzen along the way. Kotzen was the No. 2 seed at the Regionals and is currently ranked No. 12 nationally.

Sun will begin the spring at No. 69 in the ITA national rankings, one of only three Ivy League players ranked.

Theo Dean also had an impressive run at the ITA Regionals, advancing to the Round of 32. In doubles, Yale's duo of Renaud Lefevre and Luke Neal made it to the Round of 16.

The Bulldogs will play a challenging schedule to prepare for the start Ivy play in April. Highlights include matches with Butler (Feb. 4), Indiana (Feb. 5), St. John's (Feb. 12) and a trip to Northern California to meet Saint Mary's (Mar. 20) and Santa Clara (Mar. 22).

The first Ivy match is Apr. 3 at Brown.

Buffalo opened its spring season earlier this month, falling to Penn 7-0 and Drexel 5-2

Fairfield is playing in the spring for the first time.
