The Yale women's hockey team is back on the East Coast and returning to action with a pair of conference matchups against nationally ranked opponents this weekend. On Friday, Cornell rolls into New Haven for an ECAC battle with the Bulldogs. Then on Saturday, it will be a 2022 ECAC Championship game rematch when Colgate visits Ingalls Rink.

Bulldog Bytes
  • Yale (8-0-0, 4-0-0 ECAC) will play its first conference game in nearly a month after opening the season with four-straight wins against ECAC opponents.
  • Pia Dukaric has been stellar for the Bulldogs in net. Dukaric has started all eight games, earned three shutouts, and currently sports a .963 save percentage along with a .99 goals against average.
  • Jordan Ray has broken onto the ECAC scene in her first year. She leads the Bulldogs with five goals and five assists. The Florida native has points in every single one of Yale's games this season.
  • Vita Poniatovskaia has held it down on the blueline this season. The sophomore is a plus-10, has 20 shots on goal, while logging two goals and four assists
Last Meeting with Cornell
Yale took both matchups against Cornell in the 2021-22 season. It began with a 7-0 victory over the Big Red on Nov. 5, 2021, and then a 4-1 victory on Jan. 22, 2022. In that two-game series, Claire Dalton had five points, while Rebecca Vanstone and Elle Hartje had four each, and Charlotte Welch had three.
 
Recent History
Cornell holds the 7-2-1 edge in the last ten meetings with Yale. After recording a win in the first of those ten games, then a tie in overtime, the Big Red rattled off six wins dating back to 2017 before the Bulldogs captured the last two.
 
Scouting the Big Red
  • Cornell (6-3-1, 4-2 ECAC) are 2-2-1 in its last five games. Their most recent contest was a shootout loss to Princeton on Nov. 27.
  • The Big Red have three players in double-digit points this season.
  • Gillis Frechette leads the team with six goals and 10 assists.
  • Izzy Daniel has five goals and nine assists, while Mckenna Van Gelder has six goals and four assists.
  • Cornell has cycled through four different goalies this season with Deanna Fraser and Belle Mende being the mainstays. Fraser, who has seen the most time, has started eight games and played in nine. The junior has a 4-2 record with a .867 save percentage and a 3.10 goals against average. Mende has a 2-1 record, a .920 save percentage and a 1.88 goals against average.
Last Meeting with Colgate
These two squads met four times during the 2021-22 season. Yale was superior in the regular season, blanking Colgate, 4-0 and 3-0. The two teams then met in the ECAC Championship game where the Raiders got the upper hand on the Bulldogs in New Haven and took a 2-1 victory in overtime for the title. Yale got its revenge in Colgate's territory in the NCAA Regional thanks to Tess Dettling, who scored in overtime, and sent the Bulldogs to the 2022 Frozen Four.

Colgate holds the narrow 6-4 edge between the two teams in their last ten meetings.

Scouting the Big Red
  • Colgate (13-2-1, 4-1-0 ECAC) started the season with a 10-0 record before falling to Quinnipiac, 3-0, on Oct. 29.
  • The Raiders are 3-1-1 in their last five games place, which were all in conference play.
  • Five players on the roster have more than ten points, and two have more than 20 points,
  • Danielle Serdachny and Kristýna Kaltounková have been powerhouses for the Raiders. Serdachny has 30 points (12g, 18a), is a plus-11 and has four game-winning goals, while Kaltounková has 25 points (12g, 13a), is a plus-12 and one game-winning goal.
  • Kayle Osborne and Hannah Murphy have split time in goal for Colgate. Osborne has started 11 games and has an 8-2-1 record, which includes three shutouts, along with a .926 save percentage and a 1.73 goals against average. On the flipside, Murphy also has a .926 save percentage and sports a perfect 5-0 record in her five starts.

After this weekend, the Bulldogs have two more games to wrap up 2022 when they host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Union on Dec. 9 and Dec. 10, respectively.
