Bulldogs Host SHU in Season Opener

YALE ANNOUNCES NEW SPECTATOR POLICIES EFFECTIVE FEB. 11

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's lacrosse team gets the 2022 season underway Saturday at Reese Stadium, hosting local rivals Sacred Heart (3:00 p.m., ESPN+, Live Stats).

Last Season
Yale was off to a 4-2 start, including back-to-back one-goal wins, when the coronavirus pandemic brought the 2020 season to a premature conclusion following the Bulldogs' 13-12 overtime win at Fresno State Mar. 12, 2020. The Bulldogs had scored 13 or more goals three times in those six games, and were on pace for their most wins in a season (10) since going 11-5 in 2008.

Captain Dunn
Senior defender Kelsey Dunn (McLean, Va.) has been elected captain by her teammates for the 2022 season. In 2020 Dunn earned the team's Bowditch Award, determined by a team vote and given to the player who "through dedication and ability has contributed the most to the women's varsity team."  She started all six games and finished third on the team in ground balls with 11. She is a graduate of St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School and is preparing for a career in finance.

Penoyer Returns with All-Ivy Honors
Junior attacker Olivia Penoyer (Manlius, N.Y.), an honorable mention All-Ivy League honoree in 2019, is one of just eight players in the league this season with All-Ivy credentials. Penoyer had eight goals, along with a team-best 14 ground balls, in six games in 2020. Her 1.33 assists per game had her tied for sixth in the league, and her 2.33 ground balls per game ranked ninth.

Markert is Top Returning Scorer
Senior attacker Olivia Markert (Centreville, Va.) is Yale's top returning scorer (20-2-22). She was fourth in the Ivy League in goals per game (3.33) and sixth in the league in points per game (3.67) when the 2020 season was cut short after six games.

Home Field Advantage
Yale plays nine of its 15 regular-season games at Reese Stadium this year. The Bulldogs are 32-23 (.582) at home since the start of the 2014 season.

Scouting Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart went 6-7 in 2021, including a 6-6 mark in the NEC. The Pioneers last faced the Bulldogs in 2017, a 17-5 Yale win.
