NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale University men's lacrosse team wraps a three-game road trip on Saturday, April 16, when the No. 5/4-ranked Bulldogs play in Providence at No. 20/18 Brown. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
It will be Yale's (7-2, 3-1 Ivy) sixth ranked foe this season and the eighth team involved in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) top-20 poll as the Elis have already faced No. 20 Villanova (W, 17-14), rv UMass (W, 13-12 OT), rv Denver (W, 16-13), No. 3 Cornell (L, 13-12), No. 3 Princeton (W, 14-12), No. 5 Penn (W, 12-11 OT) and No. 13 BU (W, 22-15).
The Bulldogs have rolled as of late with three-straight, nationally-ranked wins before a season-best output at Dartmouth last Saturday, 23-6.
Junior
Matt Brandau set career highs against BU with 10 points and seven assists. He posted 16 total points in two games last week and earned Ivy League Player of the Week and USILA Team of the Week accolades.
The rookies have made a tremendous impact for head coach
Andy Shay this season with four Bulldogs making Inside Lacrosse's Midseason Freshman Impact list. Three were ranked in the top-10 nationally.
Long-stick midfielder
Jack Stuzin (No. 2), attack
Leo Johnson (No. 6), attack
Chris Lyons (No. 9) and midfielder
Brad Sharp (No. 21) are all playing big minutes for a Bulldogs' squad that has won four-straight games and six of their last seven.
While Yale's offense has garnered attention, the defense, anchored by senior
Chris Fake, has been just as effective and showed out last Saturday with just six goals allowed, its fewest since April of 2019.
Sophomore
Jared Paquette is 7-2 in goal for the Bulldogs and leads the Ivy League with 14.00 saves per game. He also ranks second with a .565 save percentage.
Sophomore
Nicholas Ramsey has been just as good in the circle as he paces all Ivy players with 7.67 grounds balls per game and is second with a .544 faceoff percentage.
About Brown
The Bears (6-4, 1-2 Ivy) are coming off an upset of then-No. 8 Penn in Philadelphia, 12-10. The win was needed for Brown as it actually snapped a three-game losing streak. Three of the Bears' four losses this season have come against ranked opponents.
Brown leads the Ivy League in man-up goals this season as the offense is led by Devon McLane who ranks fifth in the conference with 3.10 goals per game and 4.80 points per game.
In goal, Connor Theriault is fourth in the league with a .522 save percentage and ranks fifth with a 11.69 goals against average as well as 11.90 saves per games.
It will be a strong matchup in the circle Saturday as Matthew Gunty is second in the league in groundballs (6.89) and third in faceoff percentage (5.43).
