Y150 Wins Dodge Cup Over Penn, Columbia

PHILADELPHIA – The Yale lightweights opened their Ivy League regular season schedule against Penn and Columbia this Saturday in Philadelphia, sweeping all three events and taking home the historic Dodge Cup.

In the final race of the day, the first varsity eights were challenged by conditions as a strong head wind and rolling white caps dominated the Schuylkill River. Despite troubling waters, the Yale 1V maintained their composure, racing a complete piece from start to finish. Yale had a scorching start out of the stake boats to take a length over Penn and Columbia and extended their commanding lead throughout the entirety of the race. By the time their bow crossed the finish line, Yale had amassed a margin of 6.7 seconds off Columbia and 18.4 seconds off Penn.

"This was a full team effort, and I am really proud to be bringing the Dodge Cup back to Derby," commented senior captain Geoff Skelly.

The race not only concluded in a Dodge Cup victory for Yale but capped off a morning that was owned by all four crews of the Y150.

Prior to the Dodge Cup victory, the Yale junior varsity earned a win of their own. Like the 1V, the Yale 2V overcame tough conditions as they took a length off the start and eventually defeated Columbia and Penn by well over open water.

In the first race of the day, the Yale 3V and Yale 4V competed in the same event after illnesses in the Columbia program caused the 4V race to be scratched. Both Yale crews battled challenging conditions and defeated the Penn and Columbia 3Vs by open water.

Below are the official times from this morning.
