Bulldogs at Dartmouth, Host Harvard in Final Regular Season Weekend

Yale’s three seniors to be honored prior to Sunday’s home match

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – It's the final weekend of Ivy League play, and the Yale women's tennis team remains in the hunt for the league title. The Bulldogs, who are 3-2 in Ivy matches, are one of five teams still alive. Yale closes out the regular season by playing at Dartmouth on Friday at 2 p.m. and then hosts Harvard on Sunday at 1 p.m. on Senior Day at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. Stretch Internet will stream Friday's match at Dartmouth. Stretch will also stream Sunday's match at Yale if it is played indoors.
 
Princeton and Penn (both 4-1) sit atop the Ivy standings, while Harvard and Cornell join the Bulldogs at 3-2. Princeton and Penn play Cornell and Columbia this weekend, while the Crimson meet Yale and Brown.
 
The Bulldogs sit at No. 62 in this week's ITA national rankings, while Chelsea Kung is at No. 73 in the individual singles rankings.
 
On Sunday, Yale will honor it three seniors playing their final home match. Caroline Dunleavy, Jessie Gong and Kathy Wang have all made outstanding contributions both on and off the court during their careers.
 
Dunleavy qualified for the ITA Super Regionals in doubles and advanced to the quarterfinals at the ITA Northeast Regionals in singles in the fall. In 2019-20 she served as team captain, posted a 17-5 record in doubles and advanced to the doubles final at the ITA Northeast Regionals. In 2018-19, Dunleavy earned first team All-Ivy honors in singles and was the recipient of the team's John Blum Most Improved Player Award.
 
Gong has done an outstanding job leading this year's team as captain. In 2019-20, she and doubles partner Samantha Martinelli became the first Bulldogs to earn All-America honors. The two won the ITA All-American title in the fall, becoming the first Ivy League women in either singles or doubles to win the event. The two reached No. 3 in the national doubles rankings. In 2018-19, Gong earned second team All-Ivy recognition in doubles and was named an ITA Scholar Athlete.
 
Wang has been a consistent singles and doubles player throughout her career. In 2019-20 she had a 10-2 singles record and won four matches at the Bulldog Invitational. She also posted six doubles victories. In her first season in 2018-19, she had 16 singles wins and 16 doubles wins and advanced to the second round of the ITA Northeast Regional Championship. In addition, she was an ITA Scholar Athlete selection.
