McGill in Elite Company
Sophomore guard
Nyla McGill (Charlotte, N.C.) is second in the Ivy League in rebounding (8.6 rebounds per game). She is fifth in the league in steals per game (1.9). Princeton forward Ellie Mitchell, last year's Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, is the only other player in the top five in both categories.
Capstraw Racks up the Ivy ROTW Awards
First-year guard
Kiley Capstraw (West Orange, N.J.) has won three Ivy League Rookie of the Week awards and was recently
featured in her hometown paper, Essex News Daily. The Yale record for Ivy Rookie of the Week awards is six by
Melissa Colborne '10 (in 2007),
Camilla Emsbo '23 (in 2019),
Katy Grubbs '99 (in 1996) and
Sarah Halejian '15 (in 2012). Capstraw leads Yale in scoring (11.8 ppg) and is 12th in the league. She leads the Ivy League in free throw percentage and is 29th nationally (.900).
Sabol Solidifies Role
Junior forward
Haley Sabol (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has earned three straight starts, the first three of her career. In those games she has shot 8-for-19 (.421), averaging 7.0 points per game.
Long Road Ahead
Yale plays five of its next six games on the road. The Bulldogs' lone home game in that span is Saturday Jan. 14 vs. Cornell.
Scouting Dartmouth
Dartmouth (2-13, 0-1 Ivy League) has lost six in a row, including the Ivy League opener last Sunday at Cornell (61-48). Yale has won four in a row in this series, including a
48-33 win last February in which senior forward
Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) scored the 1,000th point of her career. Dartmouth is in its second season under head coach Adrienne Shibles, who had gone 281-67 (.807) at Bowdoin prior to joining the Big Green.
Scouting Harvard
Harvard (8-5, 1-0 Ivy League) earned a signature win last weekend in the Ivy League opener, beating Princeton 67-59 to snap the Tigers' 42 game conference winning streak. Guard Harmoni Turner, who scored 17 against Princeton, leads the Ivy League in scoring (18.6 points per game) and is second in steals (3.1 per game). Six-foot-2 guard Elena Rodriguez leads the league in field goal percentage (.696). Harvard has the second-best scoring offense in the league (71.2 points per game) and leads the league in free throw percentage (.756). Carrie Moore is in her first season as Harvard's head coach, and earned ESPN Coach of the Week honors after the win vs. Princeton.
