Bulldogs Visit Columbia, Host Richmond this Weekend

Friday, 6:00 p.m. at Columbia
Sunday, 12:00 p.m. vs. Richmond
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale field hockey team heads to Columbia Friday night for a critical Ivy League game (6:00 p.m., ESPN+, International Stream, Live Stats). The Bulldogs enter the weekend fifth in the Ivy League standings, one game behind fourth-place Princeton, with two league games left. The top four teams will make the Ivy League Tournament.

The Bulldogs then host Richmond in their final non-league game of the season Sunday at 12:00 p.m. (ESPN+, International Stream, Live Stats).

LAST GAME
Yale (5-8, 2-3 Ivy League) beat Dartmouth 2-1 in overtime last Friday. Sophomore forward Poppy Beales (King's Lynn, Norfolk, England) scored the game-winner off an assist by senior midfielder Maddy Wong (West Vancouver, B.C.). It was Beales' second OT game-winner in 10 days, following the one she had in the 2-1 win at Brown Oct. 4.

WORKING OVERTIME
Three of Yale's last four games have gone to overtime, with one (at then-No. 17 UMass Oct. 1) going all the way to a shootout. The Bulldogs are 2-1 in those games.

CORNER ADVANTAGE
This past Friday marked the second time in three games that Yale held its opponent to zero penalty corners in a game. In the last four games, the Bulldogs have earned 34 corners while allowing only 17.

SHOOTING MORE
Yale outshot Dartmouth by nine in the last game, 14-5. That was Yale's second-biggest shot advantage of the season, trailing only the 11 shot advantage (20-9) that the Bulldogs enjoyed in their 3-1 win vs. Sacred Heart Sept. 17.

BEALES AND BARLOW AMONG LEAGUE LEADERS
Sophomore forward Poppy Beales (King's Lynn, Norfolk, England) is fifth in the Ivy League in goals and sixth in points (7-0-14). All of her goals and points have come in the last 10 games. She needs three more goals to become the first Bulldog to reach double digit goals in a season since 2019 (Bridget Condie '20, 11). Junior midfielder/forward Ellie Barlow (Dunmow, Essex, England) is tied for eighth in the league with five assists.

REGULAR SEASON FINISHES WITH A FLURRY
After playing just once in 12 days prior to the game at Columbia this Friday, the Bulldogs will end the regular season with three games in eight days.

CELEBRATING YALE FIELD HOCKEY AT 50 YEARS
The Bulldogs hosted Alum Weekend last month, with alums invited back and recognized at both games Sept. 15-17. The weekend marked the debut of the Celebrating Yale Field Hockey at 50 Years video, produced by Jan Seeley '82 and directed by videographer Amanda Baker. The video can be viewed here.

AROUND THE IVY LEAGUE
No. 11 Harvard is the last remaining unbeaten team in the league (5-0), with Penn having lost at No. 17 Cornell last Friday. Those Big Red and the Quakers are now tied for second at 4-1, with Princeton (3-2) in fourth – one game ahead of fifth-place Yale (2-3).
