NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale Golf Course continues to garner accolades and recognition as one of the top courses in America. This time, Links Magazine named YGC in its "
10 of the Top Redan Holes in the U.S." article, released on Dec. 1.
The course's 13th hole was one of note in Links' article.
"With the Redan at this historic layout playing a bit downhill, Raynor's protégé Charles Banks said it becomes evident the desired play is to catch the approach a little above and beyond its center for a kick in or carom off the right corner and a curving roll across the green to the pin at the back left corner. When properly executed, Banks notes, "the play of this green is one of the most pleasing and interesting plays in golf."
In 2023, Links Magazine named the course one of the Top-10 Connecticut Courses You Can Play and a Top-10 Co-Designed Course in the United States as well as Golf Digest naming it as one of America's 100 Greatest Public Courses. Earlier this year, the historic Yale Golf Course was also taken to the world of virtual reality on
GOLF+, a revolutionary VR golf application that brought the course to life through an immersive VR experience.
The historic greens set on the New Haven-based property became public in 2022 after years of being open only to members of the Yale University community and its members.
Peter Palacios, Jr. heads the supervision of the course as its general manager, while
Jeffrey Austin serves as the superintendent. They are joined by a grounds staff that helps to maintain the course throughout the year.
The Yale Golf Course was ranked No. 83 in the world by Golf Magazine in the fall of 2019 and has been recognized by many outlets as one of the finest collegiate courses in the nation. It has been the site of every significant state championship, two USGA Junior National events, and NCAA Regionals in 1991, 1995, 2004, 2010, 2015, and 2022. The course has also been the home of the Nike Connecticut Open. In 2022, it was the site of the NCAA Men's Golf Regional and was also named one of the best "classic" courses by Golfweek. Yale's course ranked No. 60 on the list of 200 best layouts built before 1960.
