No. 21 Yale Readies for Showdown at No. 5 Stony Brook Saturday

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 21 Yale women's lacrosse team faces one of the toughest challenges of its 2023 schedule Saturday, traveling to No. 5 Stony Brook (12:00 p.m., FloSports, Live Stats). The Seawolves are currently the highest-ranked opponent on Yale's schedule, which includes five games against teams that are ranked or receiving votes in the latest IWLCA poll.
 
Last Game
Yale (2-0, 0-0 Ivy League) closed out a 14-5 win at Quinnipiac Wednesday afternoon by scoring the final eight goals of the game after the Bobcats rallied to get within 6-5 at 11:53 of the third. Sophomore attacker Jenna Collignon (Hinsdale, Ill.) scored four goals and junior attacker Bri Carrasquillo (Alpharetta, Ga.) had three. Sophomore midfielder Sky Carrasquillo (Alpharetta, Ga.) had 12 draw controls. 
 
Defense Shines
Yale has allowed a total of 11 goals this season. In both games the Bulldogs have shut out their opponents for a span of at least 26:53. They rank third nationally in scoring defense (5.50 goals allowed per game) and second in caused turnovers per game (15.00).

Sophomore attacker Jenna Collignon (Hinsdale, Ill.), who was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, has scored four goals in each game this season. Dating back to last year, she has two or more goals in the last nine games she has played, including four straight games with at least three goals.
 
Scouting Stony Brook
Stony Brook (1-0, 0-0 CAA) opened the season with a 17-10 win vs. No. 18 Michigan. The Seawolves jumped out to a 15-5 lead after three quarters, then held off a late run by the Wolverines. Midfielder Jaden Hampel (5-1-6) and attacker Kailyn Hart (2-4-6) led the team in points, while midfielder Ellie Masera added seven draw controls. Stony Brook is in its 12th year under head coach Joe Spallina, who has led the Seawolves to nine NCAA Tournament appearances. They advanced to the quarterfinals last season.
