NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's tennis team is back home for a pair of matches this weekend. The Bulldogs, No. 75 in this week's ITA computer rankings, host No. 50 Penn on Saturday and No. 53 Princeton on Sunday. Both matches are set to begin at 1 p.m. and weather permitting will be played on Yale's outdoor courts.
Â
Yale (11-6, 1-1 Ivy) had a strong opening weekend of Ivy play. The Bulldogs dropped a hard-fought 5-2 decision to No. 15 Harvard last Friday and cruised to a 7-0 win at Dartmouth on Easter Sunday.
Theo Dean won both of his matches at the No. 1 singles position, including a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Harvard's Harris Walker, who is ranked No. 34 by the ITA. Dean also had success in doubles, teaming with
Aidan Reilly to post a pair of victories.
Â
Luke Neal also posted a pair of singles victories on the weekend, while first year
Vignesh Gogineni played two strong matches, winning in three sets over Dartmouth's Henry Ren and falling in a super tiebreaker to Harvard's Henry von der Schulenburg, who is ranked No. 30.
Â
Penn's first weekend of league matches brought plenty of drama. The Quakers edged No. 30 Cornell 4-3 last Friday and then dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 11 Columbia. Penn's doubles team of Edoardo Graziani and Kevin Zhu is the highest ranked duo in the league at No. 25.
Â
Princeton, which plays at Brown on Saturday, took a break from Ivy play and beat Temple 4-3 on Tuesday. The Tigers lost to Columbia (4-3) and Cornell (5-2) last weekend.
