NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Benjamin Johnson, the Cary Leeds Head Coach of Men's Tennis is thrilled to welcome three newcomers to Yale this fall.
Magnus Weng,
Bryan Assi, and
William Zhang arrive at Yale with standout credentials on the court and in the classroom.
"We're incredibly excited about our Class of 2030," said Johnson, the Cary Leeds Head Coach of Men's Tennis. "These three first-year student-athletes will make an immediate impact both on and off the court. They've already demonstrated their ability to succeed academically and athletically, and we look forward to the contributions they'll make to our program."

Before Yale: Ranked as high as No. 36 nationally in the 2026 recruiting class… Reached No. 4 in the nation in the USTA 16-and-under division and No. 17 in the 18-and-under division… Four-year varsity player, competing one season at the No. 2 singles position and three seasons at the No. 1 singles position… Back-to-back USTA NorCal 18-and-under Sectional Champion… Silver Ball finalist at the 2024–25 USTA Winter National Championships in the 16-and-under division… Runner-up at the 2025 USTA 18-and-under Hawaii National Championships.
Personal: Son of Huatao Weng and Xingming Du…Has an older brother studying computer science at UCSD.

Before Yale: Ranked as high as No. 17 nationally in the 2026 recruiting class by TennisRecruiting.net, earning Blue Chip/5-Star status…Reached No. 1 in the nation in the USTA 18-and-under doubles rankings…Captured the USTA Winter National Championships Level 1 18-and-under doubles title…Won the 2025 Hawaii State Individual Singles Championship while competing for Hilo High School…Helped Hilo High School to back-to-back third-place finishes at the Hawaii State Championships in 2025 and 2026, including a Regional Championship in 2025…AP Scholar with Distinction…Recognized as the No. 1 mathematics student at Hilo High School from 10th through 12th grade.
Personal: Son of Hippolyte and Marie Julienne Kantiono Assi…Brother Gil played tennis at Dartmouth…Sister Emily also plays tennis.

Before Yale: Competed internationally for the United States on the ITF Junior Circuit… Orange Bowl 16-and-under semifinalist and Easter Bowl 16-and-under Bronze Ball recipient…Reached the finals of an ITF J200 event and an ITF J60 event…Captured two ITF J30 singles titles and an L4 18-and-under championship…Competed in premier junior events including Junior Indian Wells, the Junior Beijing Open, the Pan American J300, the San Diego J300 North American Closed, and the Orange Bowl…Also competed in ITF World Tennis Tour M15 and M25 professional futures tournaments…Won four ITF trophies, including two tournament titles.
Personal: Son of Ben Zhang and Jin Wang…Extracurriculars include piano, cooking, and listening to music.
