NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Mark Bolding, Susan Cavanagh Head Coach of Women's Hockey has announced that rising senior
Elle Hartje will serve as captain for the 2023-24 Bulldogs.
"We are thrilled to have Elle serve as our captain next season," said
Bolding on
Hartje. "She has been a major part of our team's success since arriving at Yale. Her immense value on the ice is evident - and I know she has had some exceptional leaders and role models in front of her the past few years. Elle will have a great opportunity to work with her teammates to lead and continue to strive to greater heights as a group as we prepare for puck drop in the fall."
Hartje was one of the most consistent players for the Bulldogs during the 2022-23 season. She etched her name into the program's record book for a second-straight year as the single-season record holder for assists. She also topped 100 career points in just her third season.
"I am privileged to succeed such a long line of amazing women as the next captain of the Yale women's hockey team," said
Hartje of her election. "Fortunately, I have spent my time at Yale learning from exceptional leaders in
Greta Skarzynski and
Claire Dalton. These two women captained teams that made history—in no small part due to their efforts. I am excited to continue to build upon the legacy of greatness that they established for YWIH and leave my own mark on the program."
The Detroit native had an extensive list of postseason accolades this year with her first All-America nod, as well as First Team All-ECAC and First Team All-Ivy selections. She was also named the Ivy League Player of the Year, Second Team All-USCHO, and a New England Division I Women's All-Stars by the NEHWA. The junior finished the season on a 19-game point streak and led the team in total points with 52, assists (39), plus/minus (+38), and blocks (44). She sits tied for third in program history in career points with 128.
"The opportunity to lead such an amazing group of women and hockey players is an honor that I will never take for granted,"
Hartje said. "The sky's the limit for this team, and I cannot think of a better way to cap my four years here at Yale than to pursue championships alongside my best friends."
