Yale's 2V Medals; Bulldogs Wrap IRA Championship with Third-Place Finish

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Yale heavyweight crew team competed at the 2023 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship on Mercer Lake this weekend.

As a whole, the Bulldogs finished third (253) in the Ten Eyck Memorial Trophy standings behind California (288) and Washington (273). The Ten Eyck trophy is given to the institution who succeeds overall supremacy at the event. After sweeping all three races, Cal took home the trophy.
 
Leading up to Sunday, all three boats for Yale passed through Friday's heats and Saturday's semifinal rounds with top-three finishes. The 1V side took first in the heat session and finished second in the semifinals. The 2V boat finished second in both the heat and semifinal races, while the 3V finished first in the heats and third in the semifinals.
 
In Sunday's grand finals, Yale's second varsity boat medaled with bronze. The Bulldogs took third place behind California and Washington. Riding in that shell was Jakov Bijelic (Bow), Benjamin Wiegand, Alexander McClean, Dan Williamson, Zac Day, Alex Potter, Matthew Hansen, Luca Liautaud (Stroke), and Thomas Allen (Coxswain).
 
Yale's 1V and 3V finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in their grand final races.

Yale's focus shifts to its final race of the season, the illustrious Yale-Harvard Regatta on the Thames River in Gales Ferry, Conn. from June 9-10. Friday will feature a combination race, while the 1V, 2V, and 3V will compete on Saturday.
