NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale women's crew is very well represented at the World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Eight Bulldogs will be competing, representing six different countries.
Mia Levy (United States) and
Imogen Cabot (Great Britain) will both race in the eight. Levy is racing at the U23 for the first time. She won a gold medal with the U.S. eight at the 2021 World Rowing Junior Championship. Cabot competed for the U.S. at the 2022 World Rowing U19 Championships.
Maddie Moore (United States),
Maya Meschkuleit (Canada) and
Lauren Carey (Great Britain) will face off in the four. All three competed at the U23s last year. Moore won a gold medal with the U.S. eight, while Meschkuleit was fourth in a pair. Meschkuleit also competed for Canada at the 2023 World Rowing Cup. Carey won a silver medal in the four at the U23s last summer.
In the coxed four,
Sophie Houston is racing for Australia. It is her first time at the U23s. She competed in the 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships.
In the single sculls,
Nicole Martinez (Paraguay) and incoming first year
Jana Dremelj (Slovenia) are each entered. Both are competing at the U23s for the first time. Martinez won the B Final at the 2021 World Rowing Junior Championship, while Dremelj raced at the 2022 World Rowing U19 Championships.
More than 750 rowers from 51 countries will participate in the U23 Championships.
Racing will be held at Plovdiv's international regatta venue which has previously hosted the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in 2015 and 2017. Plovdiv also played host to the 2018 World Rowing Championships and more recently, the 2021 World Rowing Under 19 Championships.
The World Rowing Under 23 Championships are raced in 22 boat classes and are open to all World Rowing Federation member federations. Rowers must be under the age of 23. The Under 23s began in 1976 and was called the 'Match des Seniors'. The name was then changed to the 'Nations Cup' before becoming the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in 2005.
